The Trigg Point residence creates a fluid body of space in synergy with the dynamic coastal context. Space is activated through a sequence of view corridors that engage with distant and close views; views are given meaning through depth in plan and section. The occupant is further engaged through a direct sensory experience that includes touch, smell, sound and sight. Manually operated devices enable the occupants to control comfort and exposure levels responding to the individuals daily and changing desires. One may stand on the edge of the building exposed to the salt, wind and sun or retreat deep in to the plan held in the secure arms of the building. Typically Perth coastal houses become bunkers of air conditioning and block out curtains, the west sun and southwest winds being in continual conflict with the direction of view compromising the pleasure of engaging with the exterior. We introduced an inhabitable double skin space that enables the occupants to control comfort levels in all seasons and on all days.
