mies van der rohe foundation and archive

The Mies van der Rohe Foundation and Archives explores the meeting of two contradictory landscapes in Barcelona, the mountain of Montjiuc and the grid of the Cerda city plan combined with Cerda’s moment of corruption ‘La Diagonal’. This microcosm of the famous Barcelona city elements configures all spaces, a merging in to and out of the ground, exaggerating and locked in to place by surrounding expo buildings and the ¬†famous Mies van der Rohe ¬†Barcelona Pavilion. The pavilion forms part of this passage once more reinstated as a temporary place of experience, an experience that continues to dominate contemporary design reinstating the hero status of Mies and our continual existence in his shadow.
