Alterations and additions to an architect’s own house is a place to respect and an opportunity to understand the thinking of a colleague. This house is a delicate modernist masterpiece that shifts from the white painted rendered walls at the front to salmon brick at the rear (the slick and the hairy). The upper level is supported on brown klinker bricks.
Internally the transitions are subtle, the textures refined and materiality tactile.
Our design continues and exaggerates the external transition from the slick to the hairy engaging the occupants with the exterior while, maintaining and developing the level changes, materiality and textures with a little synthetic intervention.
