coolbinia alterations and additions

The Perth suburb of Coolbinia was modelled on Ebenezer Howards Garden City concept, the radial segment creates fragments of tapering public garden space interwoven with remnant art deco and Perth modernism. The optimism still fills this suburb, young new owners capitalising on large sites close to the city.

Our design is a microcosm of the suburb plan, a sequence of tapering fragments organise the site and connect interior and exterior. The design explores a position between the polar opposite theories of the great architects Mies van der Rohe and the lessor known German architect Hugo Haering, space unfolds from the gentrified street presence with forceful dynamism to the rear boundary, with Mies’s extending brick arms and Hugo Haerings desire for specificity.
