The City Beach Residential College additions includes administrative spaces, learning spaces, recreation spaces, dining spaces and a gymnasium for gifted high school students from Western Australia.
The design preserves the mature ficus tree, wrapping the main facade around protected and concealed before breaking free of the ground.
In contrast the northern end is semi-embedded in the ground offering security, privacy and protection.
A large north facing courtyard becomes the focus for activities and the student residents, a hidden world that encourages interaction or quiet moments alone.
The design revolves around a pin wheel of passive surveillance from the main reception with a variety of spaces that embrace distant views of the ocean, bold park and the city and intimate views of the courtyard and ficus tree.
